Hi Writers and Readers! This is the weekly thread where you can share what you’re working on and what you’re reading.
Right now, I’m revising my book, plus I’m participating in #1000wordsofsummer, a wonderful space created by Jami Attenberg. I’ve been writing these 1000 words every morning, in my journal.
As far as what I’m reading? Well, I am surrounded in books about wildland fire and ecology, but I also just finishedGodshot by Chelsea Bieker and Snowflakeby Louse Nealon. I enjoyed both. Right now I’m reading Trust, by Domenico Starnone / translated by Jhumpa Lahiri— (not to be confused with Hernan Diaz’s new novel of the same name, which I can’t wait to read). Jhumpa Lahiri learned Italian and translated the book, and it’s gorgeous, and I’m jealous and awestruck simultaneously.
Anyways, enough about me. Tell me what’s up with you? Bonus points if you provide a link so we can make our way to the books you’re reading (or what you’re writing!).
I just finished No One Is Talking About This by Patricia Lockwood and I have yet to stop thinking about it! She is incredible- I have never read prose that makes me laugh and then suddenly recoil or move me to tears. And just when things seem so… bleak… Part Two is such a raw examination of hopefulness, helplessness, human connection and love. Highest praise for this work!
I need to get on #1000wordsofsummer! Idk why I haven't done it yet. I'm reading Motherhood by Sheila Heti right now, about halfway through and loving it. I also just picked up A Swim In A Pond In The Rain by George Saunders!!
George was my thesis advisor! (I really say that a lot, I cannot help it). Actually, Jess, let me mail you my copy? I've read it and can't take it with me to Florida. Happy to do it. And yes, #1000wordsofsummer is wonderful and there are even in person meetups!

I adored that book so much! Her writing is both accessible and truly brilliant, and I love how it shifted in Part Two.
