Write With Me in 2024 (and other upcoming opportunities)!
Paid subscriber benefits for the new year! Accessible writing lessons and sessions! Pricing changes!
Hello from sunny Florida! It’s quite cold outside— at night the temperature has been dipping to the low thirties, and daytime temps haven’t gotten above fifty for the past couple days, but the sun is bright; the sky blue.
New Perks for Paying Supporters!
As you all may know, I devote time and effort to this space, primarily in the form of writing things for you to read, but I’m also a writing teacher. Some of my teachers have included George Saunders, Dana Spiotta, Yiyun Li, Eleanor Henderson, Luis Alberta Urrea, Brooks Haxton, Arthur Flowers, and Ravi Howard, amongst others. I’ve also learned from many of my peers. Currently I teach creative writing at the college and adult levels. In the past I’ve taught both inside and outside of academia.
In 2024 I’m dedicating more of my time and efforts to my newsletter in two different ways. First, I’m creating accessible writing practices and lessons for all of my paying subscribers. These practices are simple but profound. They’re generative. Each practice will be accompanied with audio and/or video recordings, so you can listen to my voice as I guide you, if you so choose. The practices will all be an hour or under, with always accompanied with ideas for further expansion.
When I say simple, I mean uncomplicated.
I know that you, like me, have a limited amount of time to devote to your writing practice. Many writing exercises are accompanied with complicated reflections, directions, and instructions. These will be unencumbered, whittled down to the bones and marrow of practice, and especially accessible for those whose brains crave immediate access and understanding (like my own).
This is something I struggle with personally, because I have so much on my plate that my new ideas and potential new starts are constantly sidelined. Any practice requiring too much energy before it’s begun is a practice I’ll rarely, if ever, complete. The extraneous information and instructions, no matter how intriguing or well-written, are nothing but barriers, impassible for my neurodivergent brain. If that feels familiar, these practices will be perfect for you.
The reflections and craft observations and all that stuff? You can find those in my essays and reading notes; accessible to all subscribers. I want the writing lessons to be easy. Writing is hard enough on its own. I don’t want anything to stop you from simply doing the work and generating new material!
These writing practices/lessons will happen twice a month. Twice a month is doable, right? You can definitely complete two lessons a month. You can for sure create two new pieces of writing each month.
Along with the two monthly writing lessons, paying supporters will also have the opportunity to join me for bi-monthly mapping sessions via Zoom.
These are not “goal setting” sessions, but a holistic space where we will ask ourselves: what’s getting in the way of my writing? What’s going well? How can I map out a different path if needed, or create detours that help me feel more aligned with my current writing practice and/or projects? They’ll occur on the first and last Monday of each month (I have also thought of switching one Monday to Saturday, lmk what you think of that in the comments).
All paying subscribers will receive PDFs for the sessions, whether they attend or not! These PDFs will be different each month, as will the sessions, so we can really work through any blocks or openings and make way for what needs to come through us.
Along with the two monthly writing lessons, paying supporters will also have the opportunity to join me for bi-monthly mapping sessions.
This is a big opportunity for you, readers, to both create and participate in community as writers and human beings. It’s a space of exploration and generosity. If you formerly attended Inspiration Station, this will be a bit more guided during the first half, but we will have 45 minutes of free writing time (there will also be an option to follow a guided exercise).
Because my workload for this newsletter is increasing, the prices for paid memberships will also be increasing.
Right now, monthly memberships are $6, and yearly memberships are $39. The yearly membership breaks down to $3.25 a month. Currently, the founding member plan is $80 a year, which breaks down to $6.66 (oops) a month.
This pricing scale will remain the same until January 11th, 2024 (next Friday). If you think you’ll want to join me for mapping sessions or access the bi-monthly lessons, I strongly urge you to join as a yearly subscriber right now, before the price goes up!
If you’re a monthly subscriber, you may want to switch to yearly so you can keep the lower rate for an entire year.
New membership prices will switch to $8 a month and $56 a year (which comes out to $4.66 a month, still lower than the current monthly membership price). Founding memberships will remain the same, and I’m currently working on perks for my founding members (right now you get a letter from me, but I’d like to create continuous offerings).
Be on the lookout for meeting info and PDFs for the next mapping sessions, the first of which will happen on January 29th. If you want to join these and have a particular time preference, speak up!
Let me know what you think in the comments. I can’t wait to hear from you!
All of that sounds amazing....so I see you’ve decided that sleep is overrated 😉
I love this offering! Exactly what I need at this time. Thank you!
