I am on my fourth round of antibiotics since my tooth extraction and just starting to feel better. Kind of. I am hopeful. There’s been a sharp learning curve for me in regards to self-advocacy- my dentist brushed off my autoimmune disorder and didn't pay attention to my medication list, which includes an immunosuppressant. Therefore the “dissolvable” stitches he used stayed in place because my immune system wasn't robust enough to dissolve them, which in turn trapped food in the extraction site and caused the infection. The dental office didn't listen to me when I said things were getting worse. I had to show up in the morning, inflamed and in pain, and insist on being seen for a third time.
Now they’ve referred me out to an oral surgeon because they say they're not equipped to deal with the complications that come with my autoimmune disorder.
